Steve Pikal is a premier string bassist and a cornerstone of the Twin Cities jazz scene. Known as a “perpetual motion machine” on the upright, Steve provides a driving rhythmic foundation for some of the finest Traditional Jazz and Swing ensembles in the country.

A “first-call” musician for festivals nationwide, he is celebrated for his technical precision, perfect pitch, and a performance style that radiates genuine joy. From the Jim Cullum Jazz Band to the Holland-Coots Jazz Quintet, Steve’s melodic bass lines remain the heartbeat of every stage he touches.
